Brookfield sells controlling interest in Twin Rivers

Two New York-based private investment firms will acquire a controlling interest in Twin Rivers Paper Company, Inc. from Brookfield Asset Management Inc. Terms of the agreement with Blue Wolf Capital Partners and Atlas Holdings were not disclosed.

Kenora mill workers union says conflict over pensions may be settled for good

Retirees who worked at the former Abitibi paper mill in Kenora should no longer have to worry about the company trying to claw back their pension benefits, according to the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada.

Union members reject Resolute proposal

THUNDER-BAY - Members of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada Local 39 have voted down a proposal from Resolute Forest Products to eliminate jobs through contracting out. The employer has identified 42 jobs across the mill which they have decided to contract out, including newsprint shipping, kraft shipping, garage maintenance and bark inventory and handling.

Resolute workers stand firm on refusing pension cuts

OTTAWA -- Workers at Resolute Forest Products mills in Ontario and Quebec today demanded that Quebec's pension regulator, the Régie des rentes, and the company reach an agreement to resolve the solvency deficit in the pension plan without any cuts to benefits.

Domtar workers vote 88 per cent against adjustment

Union members at Domtar have rejected a contract adjustment worked out with the company, voting 88 per cent against a transition plan involving the layoff of 107 employees.

Ex Vertis Employees Picket in Fort Erie

FORT ERIE - Ex-employees of Vertis were out on a picket line today, Friday, January 25. The Vertis printing plant shut down last week without respecting its obligations to about 100 workers, members of CEP Local 425G. Many of them have been working for the company for decades and are left without severance pay.
