VICTORIA -- The Mayor of Victoria, Dean Fortin, will speak to Communications Energy and Paperworkers Union (CEP) delegates attending a Health and Safety Conference on Monday, April 8.
Today marks the first day of CEP's health and safety conference taking place until Wednesday, April 10th. About 200 delegates have arrived in Victoria, BC to take part in the conference and attend many workshops and discussions.
Mining activities are expected to resume soon at the potash mine near Rocanville, Sask., where workers had to spend several hours in safe rooms following a fire Tuesday.
Officials from PotashCorp said crews had completed tests of air quality and an internal review had begun to learn more about what led to the fire.
The mine was shut down after the fire stranded 20 workers in underground safe rooms.
The fire was noticed around 2 a.m. CST Tuesday morning and was extinguished a few hours later.
OTTAWA -- One of Canada’s largest unions is calling on the government of Saskatchewan to hold an inquiry into safety practices in the mining industry after 20 workers were confined underground overnight following a fire.
